WPC was hired by Bay View Development to perform Special Inspections and Construction Services for Bayview Condominiums, an 18-story high rise located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Dargan Construction is the general contractor for the project. The first phase of the condominium project is founded on augercast displacement piles. The 6-story parking garage, located across the street from the tower, is founded on 380 augercast piles. A second tower, 21-stories high, is scheduled to begin construction early in 2007. WPC will serve as Special Inspector on the second tower as well.
WPC was onsite during installation of the augercast piles as well as during the load test of the test piles. Pile installation logs were made for each augercast displacement pile and grout samples were taken each day for compression strength testing. Upon the completion of the pile caps, grade beams were cast around the piles. Reinforcing steel was inspected and concrete samples were taken during each pour. WPC also inspected the reinforcing steel and post-tension cables prior to slab pours. WPC representatives performed full-time inspections during grout placement in the CMU walls. Grout samples were taken from each grout pour to verify proper strength.
