Chub Cay Marina & Resort, located in the Bahamas, is a multi-million dollar marina construction project. Construction of the world-class resort is currently in the first of two phases which includes 57 villas, a 20,000 square-foot club house and pool, a large spa, separate mega yacht facilities, expansion of the existing marina, new water and sewer systems, electrical and fiber optic services, a new power plant and water treatment facility, staff housing and dining, maintenance and storage facilities, roadways, resurfacing of the existing airport runway, and general site development such as grading and drainage. Phase two will include additional villas and further expansion of the marina.
WPC had a lead role in the construction quality control for the project. Responsibilities have included concrete testing, inspection of structural steel, rebar and formwork, density testing, assessment of bearing capacity and monitoring of construction. WPC also monitored the installation of auger piles, drainage wells, roofing systems, and precast structures. WPC provided engineering consulting services for issues pertaining to the operation of an on-site concrete batch plant as well as insight to the design and construction methods for new construction and rehabilitation projects.
Serving as site superintendent, WPC regularly aided in coordinating activities between subcontractors, estimating concrete quantities for placement, assisting with surveying, reviewing plans, verifying layouts, communicating with design engineers, and other related activities.
