  • Asbestos Survey
  • Lead Based Paint Survey

As part of the current on-going Charleston Naval Base Redevelopment Project, WPC performed sampling and testing for the demolition of eight buildings. These buildings represent structures including single/multi-story office buildings, doctor’s offices, maintenance buildings, etc.  An asbestos and lead based paint survey for each building was conducted to determine the presence of asbestos containing materials prior to the planned demolition activities.

All areas of each building, including the roof and exterior, were visually assessed for suspect asbestos containing materials and lead based paint. Lead samples were then collected from suspect painted surfaces as well as suspect asbestos containing materials by WPC’s Lead and Asbestos Inspectors, licensed in the state of South Carolina, in accordance with NESHAP and AHERA requirements. Over 500 samples were collected and analyzed. All samples collected were submitted under strict chain of custody control to Schneider Laboratories, Inc. (NVLAP #1150) for asbestos identification by EPA Method 600/R-93/116, Polarized Light Microscopy and lead analysis by EPA 3050B/7420 Method, and Flame Atomic Absorption. WPC also developed detailed specifications for asbestos abatement.
