The Wright Army Airfield Development Park is a U.S. Army and civilian joint-use industrial park located in Liberty County, Georgia. The site is located adjacent to the existing Wright Army Airfield and undeveloped woodlands within the boundaries of Fort Stewart. Wetland impacts are required for a roadway network, infrastructure and site development.
WPC performed jurisdictional wetland delineation and protected species survey within the 600-acre tract. The wetland delineation and protected species survey were performed according to the directives of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) 1987 Wetlands Delineation Manual and the Endangered Species Act. WPC performed Federal Section 404 permitting for the industrial park. Wetland impacts associated with the development of the industrial park include 15 acres of wetland fill. Additionally, WPC provided wetland mitigation design and implementation services including the enhancement and restoration of wetland areas located within the tract and adjacent Goshen Swamp. Nearly 275 acres of wetland areas are scheduled for enhancement/restoration. The wetland restoration and enhancement was performed in mature bottomland hardwood swamp to improve and protect valuable resources without restricting regional economic growth.
WPC completed the NEPA Environmental Impact Statement in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers which includes the proposed action and alternatives, the affects on the environment, existing and new infrastructure, socioeconomics evaluation, visual and aesthetic resources, geology study, ecological systems identification, cultural resources, air quality study, hazardous and toxic substances and pollution, and noise impacts.
